Monitor Your Home With Canary
A US based company called Canary is trying to raise money for a device with the same name that is able to measure the temperature, movement, air quality and air humidity inside homes.
The Canary has been in development for more than a year now and has the aim to make homes safer and healthier.
By connecting the Canary to a iOS or Android device by the means of an app users are able to monitor their home situation on their smartphone. The device is equipped with a HD-camera, a microphone, night vision, a movement detector and is able to measure the temperature, air humidity and air quality as it demonstrates in a video on crowdfunding website Indiegogo.
The device is for instance able to measure if the temperature at home is rising, which could indicate that there is a fire, and sound the alarm. Canary learns from the user as well as it measures the home situation constantly and knows for example if a window is normally opened or closed. The device also recognizes movements from pets and separates normal temperature rises from dangerous ones. Specific sensors are also able to be switched off.
Camera images can be checked on the go as the smartphone app allows users to see the camera images when it detects something out of the ordinary.
The device is not able to adjust the temperature in home itself, but simply gives a set of warnings on to the phone of the user when something seems wrong.
Canary hopes to raise a $100.000 on crowdfunding website Indiegogo before it can start production. The Canary should than eventually sell for $199. At the time of this writing the Canary has 36 more days to go at which it raised just over $34,178.
